laughs are louder in church

i'm going to go ahead and warn you that this post is not lady like and it's not mature, but it seems that about sums up what i think is funny so here we go.

this past sunday when my sister and i went to church we found ourselves trying to hold in bouts of laughter during the sermon. this wasn't because we were cutting up like we used to when we were kids, but rather because one of the kids at the service was. during one of the more quiet parts of the sermon, the seven-year-old boy in the pew behind us felt he just couldn't hold it in any longer, and he farted. this elicited peels of suppressed laughter from banner and me that continued for several minutes. just when i'd get my laughter under control, i'd hear banner start to giggle. turns out, she'd gotten a hold of herself until she caught a whiff and then was reminded of what was so funny. the fact that we were in church, and were definitely not supposed to be laughing, made it that much harder to hold it in.

another church laughter spout tends to happen every year on christmas eve at the 11 o'clock service. banner and i have made a tradition of going to church with the jetton's therefore i blame chip for egging this on. during one of the hymns that we sing on christmas eve, the word "ass" makes an appearance. obviously this is in the biblical sense, meaning donkey and of course we all know this, but since we're on the lookout for humor in any form and any place (and maybe because we're immature at times), chip, lauren, banner and i start laughing and then spend the rest of the service trying to get it together.

it's the little things

one of my favorite quotes of all time is, "blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused". for me this means that i laugh at my own jokes quite frequently, i'm able to play just dance on the wii by myself and laugh through each song and my excitement level soars when i discover some new concotion in a magazine or on a website, which happened yesterday, twice! so i thought, why not raise someone else's excitement level today with my latest discoveries?

first up, jack rogers jellies! anyone who knows me, also knows that i live in my jack rogers in the summer time (thank you jackie o!). i'm currently on my third pair, and if we're being totally honest, these things should probably be retired because they're so worn out. i mean, they go with everything, they're gold and silver, they're amazing. and now they're waterproof?! get out.

next up, another summertime staple, lilly pulitzer. but this time, it comes in furniture form. to be more specific, an ottoman, for your closet, with room for 16 pairs of shoes hidden inside, and the signature lilly print on the lining. genius! someone asked me if people put ottoman's in a closet. this ottoman, i will be putting in the closet and i will sit on it while putting my shoes on. amazing.

thank you, real simple magazine for opening my eyes to two day brightening summer staples.

It's official, Allan signed the papers this morning and closed on the house! Come January 29, after returning from our honeymoon, this will be our house!

In case you haven't noticed, the front porch and the master bath are my two favorite things about the house. I cannot wait to be front porch rocking, because let's face it, that's the best way to keep up with the neighborhood scoop.

to iron, or not to iron

i've been going back and forth about adding an iron to one of our wedding registries. neither allan or myself actually own an iron so it only makes sense that we would want one, right? wrong. out of every possible household chore, ironing is dead last on the list. i've gotten away without ironing essentially my whole life. is that in large part because of my mother? why yes it is. but even when i was in college, or in jackson hole and needed something ironed i would just throw it in the dryer for 10 minutes, or if it was really bad, i'd take it to the cleaners. yes, i am that person that takes clean clothes to the cleaners just so that they can iron them.

i will say that i upgraded my method from the dryer to a steamer last year. this works for most things, like those silk sleeveless shirts from jcrew, dresses, skirts, etc. but for some things (those pesky linen pants and pleated skirts) i still take them to the cleaners.

i also have another method i will impart upon you today: the flat iron. i've found this quite effective for the edges of button up shirts, collars, etc. it also works well when traveling since you probably take the flat iron with you anyway.

moral of today's post, i can get by without owning an iron ... for now.
